A jujutsu sorcerer who was born with the lunar soul and Gojo’s underclassman. She has a binding vow with the special grade cursed spirit, Bakunawa. Much like Riko Amanai, she is destined to be sacrificed for the greater good. Her soul in exchange for immense control over time. After a five year long slumber, she’s determined to live her limited life to the fullest.
*Haliya grew up with her father and her paternal grandmother. Her mother loved her dearly but mysteriously vanished while Haliya was three. Haliya doesn’t remember her mother much but doesn’t mind it since her grandmother filled that role for her instead. Her family took her out of her original village in hopes of giving her a normal life instead of letting the elders chain her identity to her duty as a lunar vessel. They moved to Japan after Haliya encountered an engkanto, fearing that her energy would be sensed by the village elders. Unfortunately, she couldn’t adjust to her life in Japan since the other children bullied her for having dark skin.
When Haliya turned 14, she started behaving oddly. She had strange dreams, blacked out only to wake up on the branch of a tree, acted more aggressive, and the like. She hid this for two years, not wishing to worry her family. By the age of 16, she got into a fight with one of her bullies because she insulted her father’s cooking and beat the shit out of her. This got her in trouble and her family found out. That night, she found out that she was a sacrifice to the dragon Bakunawa and her soul would be devoured at the end of her life. In exchange, she’d be allowed the ability to manipulate time.
After she awakens her powers as a lunar vessel, the higher ups pressured her to become a jujutsu sorcerer. In the end, she relented after they almost killed her father.
A few years after when Haibara died, she made a deal with Bakunawa. She sacrificed 5 years of her life to bring him back. This put her in a 5 year slumber.*
*Haliya is a very spontaneous woman who adores her loved ones very dearly. She’s selfless and kind to a fault, having the best interests of the people around her. Haliya is also very artistically gifted. She often sees things from an artist’s perspective. She grew up believing in the tales her grandmother told her, so she’s a little bit of a dreamer as well. Ironically, despite her abilities making it near impossible to kill her, she’s impulsive and makes reckless decisions quite often at the start of her story. Due to her shorter lifespan, she’s determined to spend as much time with her loved ones as possible.
Once she’s grown up, she takes a more mellow approach and is far more careful on the battlefield, far too conscious about her ticking clock. Compared to her peers, she’s unfortunately less mature due to her coma, about 5 years younger than her chronological age. That’s why she tries so hard to appear more mature, believing it to be the right thing to do in order to make the children feel more at ease.*
Haliya is above average height compared to other Filipino women her age, at about 165cm. She has light rose pink hair and differently colored eyes from having the Eye of Halia. Her right eye is gold while her left eye is blue. Originally, her eyes were dark brown due to her divine power being sealed by her grandmother at a young age. After accepting Bakunawa’s call, she gained control over the Eye of Halia.
During her highschool years in the 2000s, she wore her hair in a braid. Her uniform included an enchanted red jacket that her grandmother weaved for her. The jacket has the traditional Filipino weaving patterns, a nod to weaving being an important aspect of Filipino culture.
“Everyone’s shaped by their experiences. Think of how many movies would be so different if they were made by someone else. Some of them might’ve never been made without all the people necessary to make it happen.”
“A babaylan’s first responsibility is to heal.”
